History

Punjab has yet to win an IPL crown and has struggled mightily in recent seasons. PBKS reached the finals in 2014, but have not qualified for the playoffs since and have finished last in the points standings twice.

On the other side, Chennai Super Kings has performed admirably since the IPL's beginning. They have won the title four times, second only to the Mumbai Indians, who have done it five times.

These two teams have met 26 times over the years, with CSK winning 15 of those matches and PBKS winning only 11. PBKS earned a deserved victory over CSK earlier this season however.

Team News And Tournament So Far

Chennai Super Kings

For the first time in franchise history, Chennai Super Kings have lost their first two IPL games and are currently rooted to the bottom of the points table. It appears as though the leadership change is not going as intended, and they need to reassess their approach immediately.

Chennai Super Kings made three changes in their last game and are constantly on the lookout for the ideal combination. If Adam Milne recovers from his side injury, strain he will almost certainly replace Mukesh Choudhary in the eleven. Mooen Ali, Dwane Pretorius, and Mukesh Choudhary came in for Adam Milne, Devon Conway, and Mitchell Santner in their match against Lucknow.

Chennai Super Kings Playing XI (Predicted) Against Punjab Kings :- Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja(c), MS Dhoni(w), Shivam Dube, Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorius, Adam Milne, Tushar Deshpande

Punjab Kings

Jonny Bairstow, the explosive wicket-keeper batsman, has finished his necessary quarantine period and will be eligible for Sunday's match against the Chennai Super Kings. Bairstow has hammered 1038 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 142.19 in his brief IPL stint. The English cricketer has seven fifties and one century in the IPL. Nathan Ellis, the Punjab Kings' right-arm pacer, is currently unavailable due to his participation in Australia's ongoing tour of Pakistan in 2022.

Bairstow may replace Liam Livingstone in the Punjab Kings starting XI following Bhanuka Rajapaksa's outstanding performance in Punjab's first two games. Raj Bawa is expected to make place for Rishi Dhawan in the PBKS starting XI.

With the firepower of another England keeper Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order, they can certainly go for Benny Howell, who may not be a fierce six-hitter like Odean Smith but provides much better control than Odean Smith with the ball.

In their previous game, Punjab lost to DC, for whom  With 3 wins and 4 defeats, PBKS will be looking to improve their record with a win.

Punjab Kings Playing XI (Predicted) Against Chennai Super Kings: Mayank Agarwal(c), Shikhar Dhawan, Johnny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa(wk), Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Rishi Dhawan, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar.

Betting Preview, Picks And Prediction

To Win The Match

Both these teams are equally placed at 1.90 to win this match as per Betway. This is primarily because CSK are considered to have one of the most balanced squads in the league. Despite losing most of their matches so far, the strength of CSK cannot be undermined and they are still slight favourites to win this match on form.

Top Team Batsman

Punjab Kings have a brilliant opening pair and both of them are the favourites to be their top scorers, with Shikhar Dhawan having odds of 3.00 and Mayank Agarwal’s odds being 3.60.

Young Ruturaj Gaekwad is the favourite to be Chennai Super Kings’ top batsman in this match with odds of 3.25. He is followed by Uthappa at 3.50 and Moeen Ali at 5.00.

Highest Opening Partnership

Punjab Kings are favourites at 1.83 to have the highest opening partnership as Mayank and Dhawan are an incredibly prolific pairing, and both are expected to continue giving PBKS some solid starts throughout the season, while Chennai are now reliant on Gaekwad and Uthappa to fire, which is also a good pairing with the same odds of 1.83.

Top Team Bowler

Dwayne Bravo is CSK’s favourite to be the top bowler with odds of just 3.50, a testament to his wicket taking ability in the death overs. He has been one of the most prolific bowlers in the IPL in recent years and is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history now.  He is followed by Adam Milne at 3.60 and KM Asif at 4.75.

Kagiso Rabada is the expected favourite as always for PBKS and he is instantly the favourite to be their top bowler at 3.50, followed by Arshdeep Singh at 3.75.

Total Runs In The Match

Odds of there being more than 337.5 runs in this match are 1.83, as per Betway. This seems highly achievable as both these teams have some brilliant batsmen and have scored plenty of runs this season.

Individual Player Betting

  • Mayank Agarwal to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.87 , which is a tempting bet as he would like to continue with another solid innings. Robin Uthappa to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.83 as per Betway , which is a tempting bet as he would like to give a quick start to his team as always
  • CSK to hit the most sixes has odds of 2.15, which is understandable as they only have Dhoni and Moeen Ali, along with Devon Conway, who can clear the ropes with ease. PBKS to hit the most sixes depends on Dhawan, Odean Smith, Livingstone and Rajapaksa, and hence they have odds of 1.85.
  • Rabada to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.00, while Bravo to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.30, which is attractive as he is in form.
