IPL 2022: Faf du Plessis admires Dinesh Karthik's performance as RCB beat RR by 4 wickets
Day by day the performance presented by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team at IPL 2022 looks more promising. When facing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium, the Bangalore-based franchise team was finally able to win the fierce match.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis said that his team's victory against the Rajasthan Royals was due to the great contribution of Dinesh Karthik who played very calmly despite being under pressure. Karthik's character play has brought RCB which was originally in a near hopeless situation, turned into a stunning victory.
After winning his second draw in the IPL this season, du Plessis followed the trend by asking the opposing team to strike first. With this opportunity, the Bangalore bowler made the most of it before the duo of Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer got into action.
"We bowled really well, until the 18th minute and then Jos [Buttler] got some good shots. Got a score which we think is slightly above par with conditions and a slightly rotating surface," du Plessis told Star Sports after the match.
An opening 55-run combination of du Plessis and Anuj Rawat was followed by the team losing four wickets.
This South African cricketer said his team had started the game quite amazingly. After that it was followed by Yuzi [Yuzvendra Chahal] who played optimally ” But for me, the great thing about today once again was our ability to come back to win games out of nowhere,” du Plessis added.
On the same occasion, du Plessis admitted that he admired Karthik for being an important asset for RCB. According to the 37-year-old cricketer, RCB's win would not have been possible without the points that Karthik recorded during the match. Especially at the last moment.
“To pull it out of nowhere, you need some great characters and DK [Dinesh Karthik] is a great character you can get. His composure under pressure was incredible. He's very calm and a tremendous asset for us," du Plessis said.
RCB vs RR
Apart from Karthik, another RCB star who also appeared extraordinary was Shahbaz Ahmed. Despite his thin and small physique, Ahmed, a player who comes from Bengal, has become a hero because he has saved RCB on several occasions in a row.
The performance of the 27-year-old player cannot be doubted. He even became RCB's third-highest run-scorer to date. Ahmed has had 72 runs across two innings with an attack rate of 156.52. This includes 45 (26) who turned the game in favor of RCB with the help of four fours and three sixes against the Rajasthan Royals.
Playing a bat in front of veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik, Ahmed played his best when his team needed 108 runs on 67 balls. The pair Karthik and Ahmed put together a 32-ball 67-run and won the game for the sixth goal.
“People think that because Shahbaz Ahmed is a small skinny guy, he can't beat him for long but he can crush him far. We didn't hit him today because of the wet ball and left-handedness, but he's definitely going to play a long role this season," du Plessis said.
