SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) took to social media to congratulate David Warner on Australia reclaiming the Ashes series and to wish him success in the forthcoming IPL 2022 mega auction.
On Tuesday, Australia opener David Warner made a sneaky jab at his former Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH let Warner go, who guided them to their sole title triumph in 2016, ahead of the huge IPL 2022 auction. Things didn't go as planned for SRH in the previous season of the IPL, as they ended at the bottom of the points table, and Warner was also fired as captain midway through the competition.
In response to a fan's comment on Twitter, Warner stated that he doubts SRH will have a solid auction ahead of the 2022 IPL season. The fan inquired of Tom Mody, the SRH's director of cricket for the forthcoming season, whether the team will have a successful auction. "Baha doubt it," Warner said.
SRH responded to their former captain on Twitter, congratulating him on Australia's Ashes victory and wishing the left-hander a successful IPL 2022 auction when he goes under the hammer next year.
“Congrats on the Ashes win Davey — Looks like you are back to form and enjoying the after-party! On the other hand, we hope you have a good auction," tweeted the official Twitter account of SRH.
New management
The 2016 winners are about to begin a transitional period, as they have brought in numerous famous figures to manage their squad. Tom Moody, who had been the team's Director of Cricket the previous season, took over as head coach in lieu of Trevor Bayliss.
Meanwhile, former Australia cricketer Simon Katich has been named as the team's assistant coach for the next season. Brian Lara, a West Indies batting icon, will act as the team's strategic advisor and hitting coach.
South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has been named the team's new bowling coach. Ex-Indian player Hemang Badani will serve as both a fielding coach and a scout.
Australia reclaimed the Ashes on Tuesday after defeating England in the Boxing Day Test to establish a 3-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series.
Warner’s resurgence
Warner struggled with the bat during the 2021 IPL season, scoring only 195 runs in eight matches. It was the first time he has scored less than 500 runs in an IPL season since 2014. Halfway through the season, SRH announced that Warner had been replaced as captain of the squad by Kane Williamson.
He was subsequently pulled from the squad entirely with a few games remaining in SRH's dreadful season.
Warner has since made a comeback, winning the T20 World Cup as Australia's player of the tournament last month. Since then, he has amassed 240 runs in four games in the Ashes, despite being dismissed on 94 and 95 in the opening two innings of the series.
On Tuesday, Australia surged to an unassailable 3-0 lead by dismissing England for a measly 68 runs and claiming an innings win in the third Test.
