Meanwhile, Gambhir is more known for the legendary intensity he brought to his performance. He is considered one of the leading run-getters for India in the shortest format. He said he had always believed in teamwork.
“I have always believed Cricket is a team game, and a Captain is as good as his team. While I will be leading the India Capitals team, I will be pushing for a spirited team who are passionate and eager to go out and win as a team,” Gambhir said.
“I wish Legends League Cricket all the very best and am looking forward to the upcoming action.”
LLC CEO Raman Raheja said having veterans such as Sehwag and Gambhir as captains show the eagerness of their respective teams to compete and win.
“Having such heavyweight names as Captains for the franchises is a testament that our teams will go all out under the leadership of these batting greats, as they are currently preparing to pick their choice of cricketers to go with,” Raheja said.
About LLC
Founded by Raheja and Vivek Khushalani with Ravi Shastri as the commissioner of the league, the LLC will be played for the first time in India and will take place in six different cities. It will begin on September 16 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, followed by Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack, and Jodhpur.
The LLC earlier announced a partnership with Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG). MEMG CEO Ranjan Pai said cricket was like a religion to India and that it "binds everyone." MEMG is the third franchise to have joined the LLC for its upcoming second season in October.
“Cricket connects with every age group in India and plays an indispensable role in the lives of people. It is not a mere sport but a religion that binds people together. We look forward to great seasons ahead and hope to make an impact on this ground as well,” Pai said.
The upcoming edition of the league will comprise a four-team tournament and a 16-match affair. With teams from over 11 countries participating, the championship will host 100 players. Several players who have confirmed their participation are Eoin Morgan, Chris Gayle, Jonty Rodes, Yusuf Pathan, M. Kaif, and RP Singh.
