Team News And Tournament So Far

Delhi Capitals

In their first IPL encounter, Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets. Lalit Yadav of the Delhi Capitals hit 48 not out from 38 balls down the order as DC chased down the total of 178 with 10 balls to spare.

Axar Patel produced a 17-ball 38 not out, and opener Prithvi Shaw added 38 as well. Basil Thampi grabbed three wickets for 35 runs for MI. Earlier, Ishan Kishan produced an unbeaten 81, but it all went in vain eventually. Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 3/18 to limit Mumbai to 177/5 in 20 overs, and Delhi Capitals quickly chased it down, reaching 179/6 in 18.2 overs.

The Delhi Capitals may suffer a setback if Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is unable to play due to a hip ailment. Mitchell Marsh was scheduled to become eligible for the franchise on April 6. The injury to the all-rounder is yet another setback for the Delhi Capitals, who may also be without South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje for much of the season.

During the match against Mumbai, Delhi only used two of their seven international players, Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell. While Mitchell Marsh's Australian teammate David Warner is expected to join DC after April 6, fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman recently played in the South Africa-Bangladesh ODI series and were in quarantine when the Capitals played on Sunday, but are expected to be available for this game. Lungi Ngidi or Mustafizur Rahman might replace Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who was too pricey against Mumbai (0/29 in 2 overs).

Delhi Capitals Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, Mandeep Singh, Rishabh Pant (c) (wk), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman.

Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans, the other new IPL 2022 team, have also done well to build a formidable squad. The most notable acquisition for the Gujarat franchise for their first IPL season was Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan, arguably the best T20I bowler in the world, who has left Sunrisers Hyderabad to spearhead the Titans’ bowling attack, which also includes Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson.

In contrast, England's white-ball specialist opener Jason Roy's departure from the IPL 2022 prompted the Gujarat Titans to sign another Afghanistan star, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, as his replacement, while all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Vijay Shankar, and Rahul Tewatia give balance to the side.

In Gujarat Titan’s first match against Lucknow Super Giants, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami (3/25) bowled a blazing opening spell that knocked the wind out of the Lucknow Super Giants' top order before Deepak Hooda (55 off 41 balls) and Ayush Badoni (54 off 41 balls) hit fifties to help Lucknow score 158 for six.

The Gujarat Titans were then led over the line by skipper Hardik Pandya (33), all-rounder Rahul Tewatia (40 not out), Matthew Wade (30), and David Miller (30), for a stunning victory in their first ever IPL match.

Gujarat Titans playing XI against Lucknow and probable XI against Delhi: Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, Vijay Shankar, Abhinav Manohar, Hardik Pandya (capt), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Varun Aaron, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami

Betting Preview, Picks And Prediction

To Win The Match

Delhi Capitals are the favourites to win the match with odds of 1.66 as per Betway. This is primarily because DC are considered to have one of the most balanced squads in the league. They managed to beat the Mumbai Indians with just 2 overseas players in their first game, and they have players coming back from injuries in this game. The Gujarat Titans have odds of 2.25 to win this match, which could be quite tempting as they looked really solid in their first game.

Top Team Batsman

The Delhi Capitals top order is littered with talent, and the favourite to be the top scorer is their captain Rishabh Pant at 3.50, while opener Prithvi Shaw has odds of 3.60.

The Gujarat Titans have many solid batsmen up the order as well, with Shubhman Gill the favourite to be the top scorer at 3.25, followed by fellow opener Mathew Wade at 4.00.

Highest Opening Partnership

Both these teams have equal odds to have the highest opening partnership at 1.85. The Delhi Capitals have Prithvi Shaw and Seifert as their openers and both gave them a blistering start in their previous game, while Gujarat Titans have Mathew Wade and Shubhman Gill as their openers, who struggled in the first game.

Top Team Bowler

Rashid Khan is the clear favourite from GT to be their top bowler with odds of 3.20, while Lockie Ferguson had a great outing in the previous match and has odds of 3.75.

Mustafizur Rahman is unsurprisingly one of the favourites to be the top bowler for the Capitals at 3.75, while the experienced Shardul Thakur also has odds of 3.75.

Total Runs In The Match

Odds of there being more than 337.5 runs in this match are 1.83, as per Betway. This seems highly achievable as both these teams have some brilliant batsmen and have scored plenty of runs this season.

Individual Player Betting

  • Prithvi Shaw to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.83 , which is a tempting bet as he is in good form and gave a good start in the previous match. Mathew Wade to score more than 23.5 runs also has odds of 1.83, which can be a smart bet as he is a consistent opener.
  • Both these teams have the same odds to hit the most sixes in this match, at 1.85. Delhi has players such as Seifert and Rovman Powell who prefer the aerial route, while GT have players like Wade and Hardik Pandya.
  • Rashid Khan to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.20, while Kuldeep Yadav to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.25.
