IPL BUZZ – 23rd March 2022

In a couple of media advisories, the IPL announced two new player replacements for assigned players that have pulled out of the 2022 season of the IPL due to injuries and other personal reasons.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz joins Gujarat Titans as a replacement for Jason Roy

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been recruited by Gujarat Titans (GT) as a substitute for England batsman Jason Roy in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Gurbaz, an Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter, has played 20 T20Is and has 534 runs to his credit, thanks to three half-centuries and a strike rate close to 138.

Gurbaz, who joins Gujarat Titans for a base fee of INR 50 lakh, would be the franchise's third Afghanistan player, after Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad.

Gujarat Titans, who will make their IPL debut this year, will play Lucknow Super Giants in their first game of the TATA IPL 2022 on March 28 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Aaron Finch joins Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Alex Hales

For the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have recruited Aaron Finch as a replacement for Alex Hales. England opener Hales' retirement from the competition has been attributed to bio-bubble fatigue after an extensive domestic season. Finch, Australia's ICC T20 World Cup-winning captain, has played 88 T20Is and scored 2686 runs, including two centuries and 15 half-centuries. He has also scored over 2000 IPL runs and has played 87 IPL games, will join KKR for INR 1.5 crore.

KKR, the two-time IPL champion, will inaugurate the TATA IPL 2022 season on March 26 against Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
