IPL 2022: David Warner shines as Delhi Capitals secure victory over KKR

Delhi Capitals' David Warner had a superb performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Sunday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The Australian cricket star is at his best and scored his 51st half-century for Delhi. Warner recorded 61 of 45 shipments and two of the top six.

Due to Warner's impressive display, he has recorded another milestone in his cricket career which was when he crossed 5,500 runs in the IPL. The 35-year-old became the fifth batsman to earn the feat after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Shikhar Dhawan, and former CSK player Suresh Raina.

With this achievement, Warner became the only foreign player to get this achievement. While the famous South African cricket legend AB de Villiers is in second place with 5162 runs.

DC vs KKR

In Sunday's match, the Capitals managed to beat Kolkata by 44 runs. It's all because of the hard work and dominant performance of DC's batsmen lineup. Warner was the star of the game alongside Prithvi Shaw (51 of 29 balls) as the pair added 93 runs on the opening wicket.

Furthermore, the run rate decreased slightly in the middle overs. But direct strikes from Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur managed to take the Delhi-based team to 215/5 in 20 over. Chasing a target of 216, KKR did not look to be leading the game as Delhi Capitals continued to pick up consecutive wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav got four and Khaleel Ahmed, a left-armed fast pitcher took three.

Delhi Capitals’ big win

Prithvi Shaw and Khaleel Ahmed were stunning on Sunday evening. Shaw chased the KKR bowler early on and played bravely without fear in the powerplay. The 22-year-old cricketer is at the top of his game to help DC get off to a brilliant start.

Shaw and Warner teamed up to power Delhi up and they slammed 50 apiece. The fifties of him and Warner set up a big win for the Capitals as they ended up racking up 215 runs at the bard in 20 overs. After Shaw left in the 9th minute, DC captain Rishabh Pant scored 27 of 14 balls and brought the momentum.

The brilliant performances of Shardul Thakur (29 off 11) and Axar Patel (22 off 14) were also outstanding in the final round. The DC bowler use an early run-chase as Khaleel Ahmed struck twice in a row to eliminate Venkatesh Iyer (18) and Ajinkya Rahane (8).

After that, Kuldeep Yadav ran and took wickets from Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, and Umesh Yadav. He finished with a fine 4/35 in 4 overs, while Khaleel got three wickets with 25 runs from four overs. Khaleel subsequently fired Iyer, Rahane, and Sam Billings to give DC the win. Meanwhile, Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer has scored the most goals for the team with 54 from 33 balls. Iyer also added 69 runs in the third wicket with Nitish Rana.

With this win, the Capitals have avenged their two-game losing streak two matches to bounce back to winning ways. This is their second win in four games in the IPL this season. KKR has also suffered two defeats from their initial five matches in the IPL.
