IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals suffer record drop against LSG with total 149/3

The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered poor results in the IPL 2022 match which took place at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, Thursday. Against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), a franchise team based in Delhi it was only able to record 149/3. This result is certainly not the result that any franchise team wants.

In this match, the team under captain Rishabh Pant got the third lowest first inning total or fewer goals in the IPL this season. Whereas throughout IPL history, DC has never gotten a total below 15. Previously, the lowest result was ever obtained by the Rajasthan Royal team when they only managed to get 139 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Jaipur in 2019.

The Lucknow Super Giants' superb performance during the match resulted in disciplined bowling that allowed them to beat the Delhi Capitals. An 80 of 52 balls scored by Quinton de Kock's opener helped LSG beat Delhi and limit the Capitals to 149. LSG's performances were too much for Delhi and left the team in trouble. It was the most disappointing result for the Capitals who actually have two big players on the team, David Warner and Anrich Nortje.

DC vs LSG

In the DC vs LSG match, Prithvi Shaw (61 of 34) hit first, giving Delhi a promising start in the early stages. He was able to bring the DC team to 52-0 in the powerplay. However, as soon as Shaw left, Delhi quickly lost a few wickets. Captain Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan then fought hard until the end of the half to save Delhi and help the team to a total of 149/3 in 20 over.

Meanwhile, on the LSG side, Ravi Bishnoi became Lucknow's successful pitcher in that match, while Krishnappa Gowtham also produced a wicket. At the end of the match, Gowtham admitted that he was nervous about coming back and playing again after a long time. According to him, in the last three years, he has not played much in the IPL. Even so, he said he would always learn from mistakes during the game and continue to evaluate.

“Felt good to bowl in partnership with Ravi. It is about mixing your pace, you cannot bowl at one pace on this wicket and we communicated the same between the bowlers. If you are mixing the pace, some are holding up and some are going through the surface," said Gowtham.

A superb performance from de Kock extinguished any small hopes DC had by taking the score to 122, hitting nine four and two six. Krunal Pandya took 14 runs from 19 overs by Mustafizur Rahman and made it five runs from six balls and closed the game. The six wickets win was LSG's third in four games. So far, they have six points and that makes them move up in the table.

By looking at the results of the last match, Delhi's bet with Nortje turned out to be a boomerang for this team. After being out of the game for a long time with a hip injury, Nortje's pace looks less than optimal. Likewise with his unsatisfactory appearance. He was sent off bowling after 2.2 over in the game.
