IPL 2022: Lewis, de Kock lead LSG to beat CSK by 6 Wickets

The Lucknow Super Giants managed to record maximum results and produced their first win in IPL 2022. The collaboration of Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis was able to score an extraordinary goal for the Lucknow Super Giants so they could beat Chennai Super Kings with 6 wickets.

In that game, Lewis contributed heavily to the strength of the Super Giants in winning an incredible six wickets over Chennai in IPL 2022 on Thursday. The Trinidadian cricketer was able to turn things around from a hopeless situation for LSG, darting to a 23-ball unbeaten 55 and overhauling target 211 with three balls remaining.

In the early stages of the match, the opening duet between skipper KL Rahul and de Kock was not enough to strengthen the game and the initial situation became very difficult for LSG. However, the situation suddenly turned around and changed rapidly.

A combination of Lewis along with the talented Ayush Badoni, makes things look pretty easy in the end. The game scenario changed in an instant as Lewis and Badoni fought Shivam Dube for 25 runs in the penultimate.

“He [Badoni] has a big heart and he is a fighter for a young boy. It shows the character to bounce back with the wet ball," Rahul said.

"He is someone who wants to grow and learn. He spends time with the spin coach. Credit for that should go to Vijay Dahiya and GG. They were the ones who wanted him. His batting has been phenomenal. Can bowl as well. Great find for Indian cricket.”

First win

Overall, Lewis recorded six fours and three sixes to give LSG their first win in the IPL this season. Badoni hit two maximums and it turned out to be an important and significant point in the final result.

The duo of Rahul and de Kock were in their best condition so they were able to finish the game in quick time. Dwaine Pretorius knocked out Rahul before Dwayne Bravo brought the reigning champions back into the game. As CSK continued to press agilely, Pretorius attacked again.

Then Lewis teamed up with Badoni to take on CSK. Only nine were needed in the final over and Mukesh Choudhary hit several shots wide. Badoni made six to level the score and successfully carried the LSG team over the line.

This first victory became an important capital for LSG before advancing to the next round.

CSK defeat

CSK took a heavy blow when Bishnoi's direct hit from the back mark marked the end of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was still far from folding in the third quarter.

Earlier, Robin Uthappa hit a 27-ball 50 and Shivam Dube smashed 49 of 30 to help the CSK team get a formidable 210 for 7.

However, Super Kings realized, it was not a total victory. The referee then changed the ball in both halves - and the Super Kings were forced to play without Adam Milne, as he was sidelined after suffering a side injury.

Ravindra Jadeja then gives the ball to Dube. Badoni started the over and moved to sweep it over the square foot for six. The last three in the slot were for Lewis, who smashed it for 4, 4, 6.

Mukesh Choudhary also hit two shots wide before Badoni pulled him back to level the score. For the next two balls, he was able to score to give the Super Giants their first IPL win of the season.

In their next match, LSG will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on 4 April 2022 at DY Patil Stadium. They are aiming for another win in this match.
