IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants sign Andrew Tye to replace injured Mark Wood

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed Andrew Tye to replace Mark Wood, who is out due to an elbow injury. Wood suffered the injury during England's opening Test against the West Indies earlier this month. Wood had to travel back from the Caribbean to get treatment right away.

During the first Test against the West Indies, the English pacer suffered an elbow injury and had to walk out of the stadium clutching his arm in horrible pain, after eventually being ruled out of the series.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the Super Giants received a notification from ECB on Wood being sidelined of bowling currently. It is unfortunate since LSG had splashed their cash to acquire the 32-year-old for an amount of Rs 7.2 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

It was previously stated that Taskin Ahmed was interested in joining the Lucknow Super Giants, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board refused to issue him a NOC because they had crucial series scheduled.

Andrew Tye stats

Andrew Tye has also played 32 T20Is and picked up 47 wickets. Tye has contributed 251 wickets in T20s since his debut for Australia in 2014, with an average of slightly over 20 and an economy of 8.04. The former Rajasthan Royals player has several tricks under his sleeves, including expertly using the knuckleball throughout the game.

The right-arm bowler will join LSG for INR 1 crore after appearing in 27 IPL matches and picking up 40 wickets. The Super Giants will make their debut appearance in the IPL this season.

Tye earned the Purple Cap for getting the most wickets throughout the 2018 season. The fast bowler grabbed 24 wickets in 14 games for the Punjab Kings. He played for the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Gujarat Lions. The Super Giants will be Tye's fifth IPL franchise.

The Australian international will prepare himself as the new season will start on March 26 with the opening match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
