IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad display underwhelming performance as team suffer another loss

This IPL season doesn't seem like the best season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). If previously this franchise team made it into the Indian Premier League playoffs consistently and last year they managed to bring home the wooden spoon for the first time in their IPL journey, now in IPL 2022, SRH's performance has fallen.

Even in their opening match, the team led by Kane Williamson has already lost twice. The defeat does not mean because their squad is weak. But because this Hyderabad-based team has not maximized the talent they have in the IPL this season.

SRH started IPL 2022 with a crushing defeat at the hands of the Rajasthan Royals. In the next match, they also lost to the Lucknow Super Giants even though Kane Williamson and his teammates actually had a quite good momentum during the match.

Talking about his team's loss to the Lucknow Super Giants in the second game, SRH captain Kane Williamson told broadcaster Star Sports that in fact, the SRH team's performance was much better than before, although this effort was not enough.

“I suppose if we look at the performance, it was a lot better than the previous game. We were a lot better with the ball. We were in a pretty strong position. Rahul and Hooda had an excellent partnership. To get to 170 from where they were was a good effort. It was close but not close enough.” said Williamson after the game.

SRH vs LSG

Williamson said his team was still not performing well enough. In the pursuit of 170, Hyderabad took the lead as Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram made a 47-run stand followed by Nicholas Poor'n's 24-ball 34.

But for the last three overs, when Hyderabad needed 33 runs, Avesh Khan and Jason Holder had two and three wickets respectively to give Lucknow a 12 run win. Therefore, Hyderabad had to lose again in IPL 2022.

“There were glimpses where we put ourselves in a position to cross the line with the bat, but not well enough. It's a nice surface. We know if we can get some good partnerships, there's enough power. We're going to reflect on the small margins and look at the positives," said the player from New Zealand.

Williamson also saw the positive side of Hyderabad's death bowling Bhuvneshwar Kumar who didn't concede in his 18th over. In addition, T. Natarajan also hit a double-wicket in the 19th over.

“I think the guys with the bowling roles were good. Some key death overs from us too. They were arguably wanting a few more runs as well. A few ones and a few twos and the chase would’ve taken a different shape. The game is a game of small margins but we don’t want to get too far ahead and try to look back on those good bits.” Williamson added.

Disappointing fans

Their poor performance has not only upset the Sunrisers Hyderabad fans, but SRH's disappointing performance has also disappointed the cricket fans.

Seeing such a great team's loss is not an interesting thing to watch, but the fans hope that SRH can make a promising comeback in the next match. In the next match, SRH will be against the Chennai Super Kings.
