History

The Mumbai Indians are the most successful side in IPL history, with a record 5 titles to their name. KKR have also won multiple titles, winning the league in 2012 and then 2014.

These two arch-rivals have met 29 times over the years, and MI have an incredibly one sided head to head record as they have won 22 times, while KKR have only won 7 matches.

Team News And Tournament So Far

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have had a disastrous start to the IPL 2022 season, losing both their first two matches comprehensively. Their bowling has been very poor as DC and RR both found it very easy to post huge totals against them.

The five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners, have received good news in the form of ace batsman Suryakumar Yadav's comeback from rehabilitation. Yadav, who missed the first two IPL games against Rajasthan Royals(RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), could be available for the third game after fully recovering from his injury. He will almost certainly replace Anmolpreet Singh, who scored 8 points off 9 balls against Delhi.

Daniel Sams proved to be quite expensive in MI's first game. He conceded 57 runs in four overs and was a major factor for the team's loss in their first game. Riley Meredith, Fabian Allen, or Jaydev Unadkat might take his spot in the starting XI.

Tilak Varma showed off his abilities in the first game against DC, scoring a critical 22 runs off 15 deliveries, and he was also solid against Rajasthan Royals, scoring a brilliant 61 off just 33 balls, studded with 5 sixes.

Mumbai Indians Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Murugan Ashwin, Tymal Mills, Jasprit Bumrah, Basil Thampi.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR started the season very well, earning a solid win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings. They then lost to RCB by just 3 wickets, in a match where they almost defended a very low total. KKR bounced right back up with an impressive victory over Punjab Kings, as Andre Russel seems to have found his batting form back.

KKR has the option of fielding an extra international player in place of keeper Sheldon Jackson or pacer Shivam Mavi, who both struggled against Chennai. The Knight Riders lost their second game against RCB, though they almost defended a very modest total with some brilliant bowling.

Chamika Karunaratne of Sri Lanka, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan, and Tim Southee of New Zealand are the international alternatives on the bench. Tim Southee or Mohammad Nabi might get a chance to play against Punjab. Shreyas Iyer gave KKR debuts to Ajinkya Rahane, English wicket-keeper Sam Billings, and domestic stalwart Sheldon Jackson in the absence of Australia's batsman Aaron Finch and bowler Pat Cummins against Chennai in their first game.

KKR Predicted Playing XI vs PBKS: Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer(c), Nitish Rana, Sam Billings(w), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Varun Chakravarthy

Betting Preview, Picks And Prediction

To Win The Match

Mumbai Indians are still the favourites to win the match with odds of 1.80 as per Betway, despite being bottom of the table. This is primarily because MI are still considered to have one of the strongest squads in the league, and the losses can be called a temporary poor patch of form. KKR are struggling this season too, yet have attractive odds of 2.10 as the slight underdogs in this match.

Top Team Batsman

Mumbai Indians have a brilliant opening pair and both of them are the favourites to be their top scorers, with Ishan Kishan having odds of 3.25 and Rohit Sharma’s odds being 3.00.

Captain Shreyas Iyer is again the favourite to be KKR’s top scorer in this match, as he is widely considered to be their most consistent batsman and has odds of 3.75. Opener Ajinkya Rahane, despite his poor form, has odds of 4.00 to be the top scorer.

Highest Opening Partnership

Mumbai Indians are favourites at 1.80 to have the highest opening partnership as Rohit and Ishan Kishan are considered as one of the best opening pairs in the league. KKR on the other hand, haven’t had a single good opening stand this season.

Top Team Bowler

Jasprit Bumrah is the clear favourite from MI to be their top bowler with odds of 3.50, after his 5 wicket haul in the last game, while Tymal Mills had a great outing in the previous match and has odds of 3.75.

Umesh Yadav has surprisingly emerged as KKR’s favourite to be the top bowler at 3.75 as he is the leading wicket-taker in the league so far, while leggie Varun Chakravarthy has odds of 4.00.

Total Runs In The Match

Odds of there being more than 333.5 runs in this match are 1.83, as per Betway. This seems highly achievable as both these teams have some brilliant batsmen and have scored plenty of runs this season.

Individual Player Betting

  • Ishan Kishan to score more than 29.5 runs has odds of 1.83 , which is a tempting bet as he is in incredible form and struck a brilliant half century in the first match as well. Nitish Rana to score more than 24.5 runs also has odds of 1.87, which is also a tempting bet as he would like to continue his current form and stabalize the KKR middle order.
  • KKR to hit the most sixes has odds of 1.90, which can be very tempting with Russel back in form, along with Iyer, Rana and Narine’s ability to clear the rope. MI to hit the most sixes has odds of 2.05, which can be tempting with Tim David back in the team and traditional big hitters Rohit, Ishan and Pollard all ready and waiting
  • Sunil Narine to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.25, while Bumrah to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.00, as this promises to be a clash of these bowling legends.
