History

DC and Punjab Kings have a fierce long term rivalry, with players such as Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Shami playing for both these franchises. Both these teams have never won the IPL title, yet have reached the final stages a few times. In 28 matches between both these sides, DC have won 13 while PBKS have won 15 times.

Team News And Tournament So Far

Delhi Capitals

In their first IPL encounter, Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets. Lalit Yadav of the Delhi Capitals hit 48 not out from 38 balls down the order as DC chased down the total of 178 with 10 balls to spare.

Axar Patel produced a 17-ball 38 not out, and opener Prithvi Shaw added 38 as well. Basil Thampi grabbed three wickets for 35 runs for MI. Earlier, Ishan Kishan produced an unbeaten 81, but it all went in vain eventually. Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 3/18 to limit Mumbai to 177/5 in 20 overs, and Delhi Capitals quickly chased it down, reaching 179/6 in 18.2 overs.

In the second game, a valiant innings by captain Rishabh Pant went in vain, as DC collapsed to a 14 run defeat against Gujarat Titans. This leaves DC languishing in the middle of the table.

The Delhi Capitals may suffer a setback if Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is unable to play due to a hip ailment. Mitchell Marsh was scheduled to become eligible for the franchise on April 6. The injury to the all-rounder is yet another setback for the Delhi Capitals, who may also be without South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje for much of the season.

During the match against Mumbai, Delhi only used two of their seven international players, Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell. However, David Warner finally made his comeback for the Delhi franchise after a gap of 10 years against Lucknow Super Giants, though that ended in disappointment as he didn't play a good innings and DC lost again.

While David Warner has been in brilliant form for DC with 2 half centuries in 3 matches, Mitch Marsh struggled in his first game, and has now been diagnosed with Covid-19 and been hospitalized as precaution.

DC recovered brilliantly in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders, as they posted a mammoth total of 215, with brilliant half centuries from both Shaw and Warner. Delhi Capitals lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their previous match of IPL 2022. Batting first, RCB piled up 189-5 on the scoreboard. While the openers failed to fire, Glenn Maxwell slammed 55 runs. Later, Dinesh Karthik also smacked a marvelous knock of unbeaten 66 runs, including a brutal 28 run over off Mustafizur. For Delhi Capitals, only opener David Warner slammed 66 runs. Later, Rishabh Pant also scored 34. However, losing some crucial wickets in the middle, DC could not pull off the victory. They eventually lost by 16 runs.

Delhi Capitals Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (captain/wicketkeeper), Rovman Powell, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman.

Punjab Kings

Jonny Bairstow, the explosive wicket-keeper batsman, has finished his necessary quarantine period and will be eligible for this match against the Gujarat Titans. Bairstow has hammered 1038 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 142.19 in his brief IPL stint. The English cricketer has seven fifties and one century in the IPL. Nathan Ellis, the Punjab Kings' right-arm pacer, is currently unavailable due to his participation in Australia's ongoing tour of Pakistan in 2022.

Punjab Kings have all their overseas players available. There are high chances that they may consider bringing in Benny Howell for Odean Smith who is an experienced T20 veteran from Hampshire. He has plenty of variations under his sleeves and is one of the pioneers when it comes to bowling off cutters, leg cutters, and knuckleballs in T20s. He is also a decent hitter lower down the order.

With the firepower of another England keeper Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order, they can certainly go for Benny Howell, who may not be a fierce six-hitter like Odean Smith but provides much better control than Odean Smith with the ball.

In their previous game, Punjab lost to in-form SRH, for whome Umran Malik was on fire as he snapped up 4 wickets. With 3 wins and 3 defeats, PBKS will be looking to improve their record with a win.

PBKS Probable XI: Mayank Agarwal (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper), Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, Rishi Dhawan, Benny Howell, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Varun Arora, Arshdeep Singh.

Betting Preview, Picks And Prediction

To Win The Match

Both these teams have equal odds of 1.90 to win this match. DC have won 2 of their 4 matches, while RCB have won 3 of their 5 matches so far, and both these teams are in equally good form of late.

Top Team Batsman

The Delhi Capitals top order is littered with talent, and the new favourite to be the top scorer is undoubtedly the returning David Warner at 3.25, followed by their captain Rishabh Pant at 3.50, while opener Prithvi Shaw has odds of 3.60, which is attractice as he is in form.

Punjab Kings have a brilliant opening pair and both of them are the favourites to be their top scorers, with Shikhar Dhawan having odds of 3.00 and Mayank Agarwal’s odds being 3.60 to be their most consistent batsman.

Highest Opening Partnership

DC are favourites at 1.80 to have the highest opening partnership in this match. This is primarily because they have one of the best opening pairs in Warner and Shaw, who have accumulated two back-to-back 50 partnerships already.

Top Team Bowler

Mustafizur Rahman is unsurprisingly one of the favourites to be the top bowler for the Capitals at 3.75, while the experienced Shardul Thakur also has odds of 3.75. The returning Nortje, another big name, has odds of 4.00 after a disaappointing performance in the previous game where he was banned from completing his over after 2 full tosses.

Kagiso Rabada is finally back after making his debut for PBKS and he is instantly the favourite to be their top bowler at 3.50, followed by Arshdeep Singh at 3.75.

Total Runs In The Match

Odds of there being more than 337.5 runs in this match are 1.83, as per Dafabet. This seems highly achievable as both these teams have some brilliant batsmen and have scored plenty of runs this season.

Individual Player Betting

  • Shikhar Dhawan to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.87 , which is a tempting bet as he would like to continue with another solid innings. Prithvi Shaw to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.83 , which is a tempting bet as he is in good form and gave a good start in the previous match.

  • PBKS to hit the most sixes has odds of 1.85, which are great odds with Odean Smith, Shikhar Dhawan, Livingstone and Rajapaksa all capable of clearing the boundary. Delhi have decent odds in this department with David Warner back, at 2.15.
  • Mustafizur to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.25, while Rabada to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.10.
