PL 2022: Rohit Sharma ready for new season with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, expressed his excitement to play in the new season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Despite the fact that workload management has taken center stage, Sharma said he is looking forward to playing all of the games for the five-time champions.

In the forthcoming 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, the 34-year-old said he is looking forward to opening the batting with Ishan Kishan.

When Sharma was named as Test captain, there were doubts about his fitness after he missed the crucial tour to South Africa due to a hamstring injury. However, India chief selector Chetan Sharma played down those fears.

Despite Mumbai failing to make the playoffs, Sharma improved his total score in IPL 2021, with 381 runs. He had stated before the season that he would like to open the innings again, but that he was willing to bat anywhere if the team needed him to.

Sharma, Kishan duo

With no Quinton de Kock to fall back on this time, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the best and most trustworthy opening combo for the five-time champs. Despite the fact that the entire IPL 2022 league stage will be held in Maharashtra, MI captain and coach believe their team will not have a home advantage.

In many ways, Sharma is starting from fresh with this group. On the surface, Michigan's pace-bowling lineup appears to be a cause for concern. Mumbai only kept one bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, before the auction, and with the likes of Trent Boult and Adam Milne gone, the India pacer might be teaming Jaydev Unadkat and Tymal Mills with the new ball.

Sharma emphasized the need of determining what each player brings to the table and assigning them new duties in a restructured setup.

Mumbai Indians

Suryakumar Yadav who is the middle-order hitter is currently recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, Sharma stated in a virtual press conference alongside head coach Mahela Jayawardene on Wednesday. Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture in his thumb during the T20I series finale against the West Indies on February 22.

The Indians have five matches scheduled at the Wankhede Stadium, but Sharma does not believe it would provide them an advantage over other clubs. Furthermore, with the resumption of the group format for the first time in 11 years, Sharma believes that adequate planning would be crucial for the five-time champions moving forward.

The Indians will kick off their season against the Delhi Capitals on March 27 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
