History

Sunrisers Hyderabad are two-time winners of the IPL, first in 2009 under the name of Deccan Chargers, and then in 2016 under the able leadership of current captain David Warner. Rajasthan Royals won the first ever IPL title back in 2008, but have consistently struggled ever since. These two teams have faced each other 15 times in the IPL, with SRH winning 8 of those, and RR also winning 7.

Team News

Sunrises Hyderabad will be captained by Kane Williamson, whom the team has retained ahead of the IPL 2022 season. Rashid Khan and David Warner were let go, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan were repurchased in the major auction. Other players acquired at the auction include Washington Sundar, Rahul Tripathi, Maco Jansen, and Nicholas Pooran. The Hyderabad based franchise picked skipper Kane Williamson from New Zealand, young all-rounder Abdul Samad and fiery uncapped pacer Umran Malik as the three retentions.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had an excellent auction in which they selected some fantastic young talents, and their auction approach shows that they built a core group for the next years.

With the exception of Australia fast bowler Sean Abbott, who will be involved in the series against Pakistan and will miss the first three games for the franchise, they have all players available for their opening match of the IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals.

SRH will almost certainly open with Abhishek Sharma, who impressed many last season batting at the same spot. At the top, he is anticipated to be partnered with Rahul Tripathi. Kane Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram are most likely to start at 3, 4, and 5 respectively. They will be followed by all-rounders Abdul Samad and Washington Sundar, who will also handle the spin department. The three fast bowlers in the team are anticipated to be Marco Jansen, T Natarajan, and Umran Malik.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Probable Playing XI: Aiden Markram, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik

Rajasthan Royals

Ahead of the auction, Rajasthan Royals released players like Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes but retained their successful opening pair Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal along with skipper Sanju Samson. With the presence of Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals’ top order was sorted.

The Rajasthan Royals then acquired in-form batsmen like Devdutt Padikkal, Daryl Mitchell, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Karun Nair, and Shimron Hetmyer to stack the possibilities with a mix of left and right-hand combinations.

On paper, their batting appears to be solid, and their bowling appears to be in order with the arrival of India's top spin bowling options in Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. Pacers Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult are likely to lead the bowling attack, with Navdeep Saini, James Neesham, and Nathan Coulter-Nile providing backup.

Sanju Samson has performed admirably under pressure most of the time, but when he captained the Royals last season, he won only 5 of 14 matches. Aside from in-form West Indian Shimron Hetmyer and, to a lesser extent, Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham, the Rajasthan Royals are missing that one player who can regularly finish games and instil terror in the opposition.

Rajasthan Royals Probable XI:  Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (captain/wicketkeeper), Shimron Hetmyer, James Neesham, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Individual Player Betting

  • Buttler to score more than 24.5 runs has odds of 1.87, and its a tempting bet as he would like to establish himself as RR’s top batter. Kane Williamson to score more than 26.5 runs has odds of 1.83 , which is a tempting bet as he is their most consistent batsman.
  • RR to hit the most sixes has odds of 1.85, which can be tempting with Buttler, Hetmeyer and Samson in the squad.  SRH to hit the most sixes has odds of 2.10, which are also very attractive odds, especially if their openers get firing.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.30 which is a given with his experience, while Boult to take 2 or more wickets has odds of 2.20, which is attractive as he can snap up key top order wickets.
