KL Rahul-Deepak Hooda Duo Lead LSG To Victory Against DC By 6 Runs

In Sunday's match, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Delhi Capitals for 195/3 in 20.0 overs. The team gained the victory by six runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

There was not much head-to-head history between these two teams, as the Super Giants had just joined the IPL this season. During the 2022 IPL, LSG met DC two times and won both of the matches. In the 15th match on April 7, LSG won by six wickets, with a final record of 155/4 in 19.4 overs.

The game started with KL Rahul winning the toss and his side choosing to field first. LSG was off to a good start as wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock immediately scored 23 off 13 balls with three fours and a maximum.

Lucknow’s victory was credited to skipper Rahul and Deepak Hooda, who gave impressive play. Rahul led the team with 77 off 51 balls, while Hooda finished with 52 off 34 deliveries. Rahul and Hooda made 95 runs in total for the second wicket.

Apart from leading the team to victory, Rahul also reached 150 sixes in the IPL and became the fastest Indian player to achieve it within 95 innings, beating Sanju Samson, who reached 150 maximums in 125 innings. He also completed 250 maximums in the T20 games. On the other hand, Hooda recorded the first half-century by an LSG player.

Mohsin Khan, who won the Player of the Match award, also contributed to the Super Giants’ victory. Khan snatched four wickets from David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Rivman Powell, and Shardul Thakur.

This victory led the Super Giants to second place in the table, replacing the Rajasthan Royals, while the Capitals are currently in sixth place.

Delhi Capital’s resistance

The Capitals got Prithvi Shaw and David Warner as their openers, but they were not doing too well in the beginning. Shaw was removed for just five runs, while Warner scored three runs.

Mitchell Marsh, on the other hand, managed to secure 37 runs off 20 balls and three fours. The team’s captain, Rishabh Pant, recorded 44 runs off 30 deliveries. Key player Axar Patel also contributed to the team with an unbeaten 42 runs. However, their resistance was not enough to hold LSG from winning the match.

After the match finished, Pant shared his thoughts about the match. He admitted that the loss was such a hard fact, but the team committed to giving a better performance in the future and starting to win close matches.

"I think it's hard (loss), but we have to start winning close matches. We came close in a few games but we are losing it. I'm really happy that the bowlers pulled it back. But on these kinds of wickets when the bowlers put up a helping hand, we got to perform as a batting unit as well," Pant said.

Pant also mentioned that the Super Giants need to improve their batting average, from the 30s or 40s to a higher score. The team is looking forward to a good result as they are improving themselves for the upcoming matches.
